Before The Body Gets Cold

Whiskey & Boots undertook an initial development of a collaboration with the band The Kill Devil Hills. Using Headphone Verbatim we explored people’s real-life experiences with death, from the tragic to the absurd, while we can all agree that death is something all of us will experience, we were interested in investigating why it’s still such a taboo.

W&B (Georgia King, Mark Storen) collected a sample of stories from real people who have been affected by death in different ways. They brought these verbatim accounts to our band – Holly and Tom Garvey and the band The Kill Devil Hills who responded to the material musically, creating an underscore and original songs.

We rehearsed this concept and performed an informal development showing at The Bird, Northbridge for invited guests of peers and industry professionals as well as the participants who were interviewed for the project in May 2022

We imagine this project has the potential for presentation as part of a festival context.
